VR materials
The VR working group developed VR materials in close collaboration between people with aphasia, speech and language therapists, and researchers.
The materials enable people with aphasia to practice communication in recognisable, everyday situations using 180° VR videos.
Watch the video below to get an impression of the materials.
Information about the project and the VR materials
The VR materials
The VR materials consist of lifelike 180° videos of four scenarios:
- Birthday party
- Restaurant
- Supermarket
- Pharmacy
For each scenario, two practice videos are available:
- Easy version
- More difficult version
With the headset on, users experience a sense of being physically present in the situation shown.
The working group VR
The VR working group consists of four people with aphasia, two speech and language therapists, and two researchers. The people with aphasia, as experts by experience, actively contributed to all phases of the development process.
User manual
The manuals are available in Dutch and are included to provide insight into the VR materials and their clinical use.
Interested in collaboration or exchange?
The VR materials are developed for use with Dutch-speaking people with aphasia and are currently only suitable for Dutch-language clinical settings.
At the same time, we welcome international interest in the approach, methodology, and development process behind the VR intervention. We are open to collaboration, knowledge exchange, and discussion about adapting or developing similar tools for other language contexts.
If you are interested in research collaboration or clinical exchange in the field of aphasia and immersive technologies, please feel free to contact the project team: r.groenewold@umcg.nl.
